1 -  General Category / Awesome Paws Announcements / Big Sky Dog Center Jumping Workshop May 18/19

Started by Linda Mecklenburg - Last post by Linda Mecklenburg on: March 04, 2019, 11:00:43 PM

I’ll be offering a two-day jumping workshop. The workshop will cover material derived from Mastering Jumping Skills Volumes 1 & 2. Topics include fundamentals of jumping that all agility handlers should benefit from with an overview of the jumping skills required in agility, leads, foundation jump training that promotes thoughtful, clean jumping, and training of multiple jumping skills with discussion of how these skills relate to handling (from MJS Vol 1). Jumping problems plus selected advanced jumping drills, and how they are used to improve performance (MJS Vol 2), will also be covered.

The format will be lecture/demo. There will be no “working” spots; however, participants will be encouraged to volunteer their dogs for the drills they may be suitable for. There may be opportunities for dogs of all levels to participate, from 6 mos to seasoned pro.
Mastering Jumping Skills is highly recommended. Information will be posted in the Announcements Board on the Awesome Paws Forum.

Both days:

Early registration fee: $225 USD (until April 1)
Registration fee: $275  USD (April 2 – May 16)
Registration at the door (check or cash only, no credit card payments at door) : $300 USD (After May 16)

One day only : $150 USD

Details and updates on the workshop will be found here. In addition, there will be a Facebook group that you can join for questions etc. Contact Joe to be added to the group.

Mastering Jumping Skills 1 is an overall introduction to jumping; includes background info about the jumps themselves, on the different jumping skills, leads, etc It includes fitness & conditioning for jumping, foundation flatwork, intro to jumping and 1- and 2- jump skills.

Volume 2 picks up where 1 left off... beginning sequencing, adding handling skills to the mix, chapters with drills on the specific skills (collection, extension, slice, landing-side approach, etc), Jumping Problems, early takeoffs, etc etc.

So, they cover different material. The publisher tells me Volume 2 is on their radar for early 2019...so I’m hoping it won’t be much longer until its published.

I have been thinking of buying volume one but not sure if I should wait for volume two - is it out soon, does it replace vol one or add to it? Thank you

It was recently brought to my attention that some may be having a problem watching these. I also got the message telling me that I need to have Flash Player installed that the user did, when I already DO have it. I got the error in both Chrome and MS Edge.

First, if you get the error message, make sure you are using an up to date version of Flash. The message will direct you to a free download.

If you are up to date, this worked for me in Chrome:
The site needs Flash to work
If a website isn’t working, you might need to change your settings to allow Flash.

1) To the left of the web address, click Lock or Info View site information.
2) At the bottom, click Site Settings.
3) In the new tab, to the right of "Flash," click the Down arrow Down arrow and then Allow.
4) Go back to the site and reload the page.

In MS Edge you may have a box pop up asking you to enable Flash. Just click the button to do so. It may also ask you if you are sure the site is safe. You can click out of that or go through and report it as a "safe" or "known" site.

Not certain why this is a problem now, when it wasn't before, but it should work with these steps. If there is anyone out there who know more about this stuff than I do (which could be a lot of you! <g>) I'm  happy for more info.  (agilpwd@gmail.com) This is basically a workaround.

I use imovie and also moviemaker, and now photoshop.  The easiest is imovie if you are using your iphone and only want to review, edit, send. nothing too fancy (although it does have some newer features that are fun).

Hi, Sorry I missed your message and didn't reply sooner. I don't really know much about the other programs out there. I just did up these instructions as I was helping figure it out for someone else in the class. I mostly use Windows Movie Maker. It's fairly basic but gets the job done. There are better editing programs out there. I'm sure there are others that might be better able to advise about the most current programs.

Are you still using iMovie or is there better stuff out there nowadays, Charlotte?
